We are seeking both an operations manager and experienced bike mechanics for our team.
About Us:
Fairmount Bicycles is a community-oriented bike shop located at the intersection of the Francisville, Spring Garden, and Fairmount neighborhoods of Philadelphia. We specialize in providing high-quality bicycles, accessories, and exceptional customer service to cyclists of all levels. Operations Manager
The operations manager will ensure all bike shop operations are carried on in ethical and cost-effective ways.
Responsibilities
- Customer service, including email and in-person at the shop
- Recruit, train, supervise, and schedule staff
- Find ways to increase quality of customer service
- Organize & order inventory
- Know the ins and outs of our point of sale systems
- Develop new ideas & have the drive to implement them
- Communicate effectively with staff, customers, and shop owner
- Examine financial data
- Manage community initiatives, such as our community pantry, community bike repair fund, and events
Requirements and skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Leadership ability
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Weekend availability
- Bike shop experience
A plus if you also have
- Experience budgeting and forecasting
- Familiarity with business and financial principles
- Proven work experience as Operations Manager or similar role
Pay & Benefits
- Hourly rate starting at $20/hr, commensurate with experience
- 32 hour/week work week
- Dental insurance offered, 50% paid by company

- Limited paid time off in season
- Flexible unpaid 4-12 weeks off in the winter
Bike Mechanic
Responsibilities
- Perform repairs with precision and efficiency
- Assemble new bicycles and ensure they meet quality standards before delivery to customers
- Assist customers in selecting the right accessories and components for their bikes
- Keep the shop organized
- Welcome customers to the shop and provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance.
- Listen to customers' needs and recommend bicycles, accessories, and gear tailored to their preferences and budget
- Use Lightspeed to enter workorders, add inventory, and process sales
- Assist with inventory management, including restocking shelves and updating product displays.
- Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries about products, services, and repair appointments.
Requirements and skills
- Passion for bicycles and a genuine desire to help customers
- Previous experience as a bicycle mechanic or salesperson is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with bicycle components, tools, and repair techniques.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with customers in a friendly and approachable manner.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to providing exceptional service and craftsmanship.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

- Competitive hourly wage for experienced mechanics - starting at $18/hr + tips
